Porto

Porto

Porto the second largest city in Portugal and as its name suggests, famous for the Portuguese Port! But that is not the only reason why the city is so immensely popular. The old center, Ribeira, of Porto is bursting with small alleys, colored houses and little blue tiles everywhere you look. These are also called Azulejos. You can find these Azulejos all over Portugal, but in Porto they are the most beautiful. Some must-visits of Porto are the train station (yes really, this is one of the most beautiful train stations in the world!), Sé di Porto, the cathedral of Porto on top of the highest hill and with beautiful views of the city, Mercado do Bolhão (covered market) and much more. By bicycle, on foot or in one of the many streetcars you will discover this city. And don't forget to drink a lot of port!

Douro valley

The delicious port wine is not made in Porto itself. The vines for the grapes grow on the banks of the Douro River. The River begins in the interior of Spain and follows its path through the city of Port to the Atlantic Ocean. Not only do the grapes for Port grow on these banks, the float of the popular red Douro wine is grown here. To get a good impression of the Douro region, you can drive from Peso da Régua to Pinhão. Recently this route was named the best driving route in the world, so that's saying something!
