Broome - Darwin tour

Day 1: Broome - Fitzroy Crossing
You will drive from Broome eastward to Fitzroy Crossing. On the way, you can see the Boab Prison Tree at Derby, which was formerly used as a prison. If you are driving by 4WD you should by no means miss the magnificent Windjana Gorge. An oasis of peace lies here among millions of years old rocks. You will then drive along Tunnel Creek to Fitzroy Crossing. If you have a regular (2WD) motorhome, you will need to stick to the Great Northern Highway from Broome.

Day 2: Fitzroy Crossing - Halls Creek
Before you drive on to Halls Creek, be sure to take a boat ride in the morning through the Geikie Gorge with its sheer cliffs and brilliant shades of color.

Day 3: Halls Creek - Kununurra
First thing in the morning, visit the original gold mining town of Halls Creek. Then continue your drive along the Great Northern Highway.
You will drive further north along the Bungle Bungle Mountains to Kununurra, where you will stay 3 nights.

Day 4: Kununurra
A day trip by plane to the Bungle Bungle National Park is a great option, with its black-orange rocks.

Day 5: Kununurra
If you are driving by 4WD, you can take a drive to El Questro station and take a helicopter over this immense farm, for example. Another option is an excursion along the Ord River to Lake Argyll.

Day 6: Kununurra - Katherine
Today you will leave Western Australia and reach Katherine in the Northern Territory, where you will stay for 2 nights.

Day 7: Katherine
You get to explore the beautiful Katherine Gorge today, either by cruise or by canoe. Most cruises take you through the first two or three gorges. If you're up for a full-day canoeing adventure, it's possible to reach the narrow and steep 5th gorge.

Day 8: Katherine - Kakadu National Park
Drive north along the Stuart Highway and enter Kakadu via the southern access road. You’ll stay two nights in the park. In the afternoon, visit Nourlangie Rock to see impressive Aboriginal rock art and enjoy the panoramic views from the lookout.

Day 9: Kakadu National Park
Start your day with a sunrise cruise on the Yellow Water Billabong, where you’ll spot crocodiles and birdlife in their natural habitat. Later, drive north to Ubirr Rock for more ancient rock art and a stunning view over the wetlands.

Day 10: Kakadu National Park - Darwin
Today you drive back to Darwin via the Arnhemland Highway. On the way, you can stop at the Fogg Dam to observe the numerous birds. You may choose to take an extra trip to Litchfield National Park, with its green oases and waterfalls (180km extra).
